EMERGENCY INFO
When You Play Sports
Wear a mouth-guard that fits over your braces and protects your appliances from getting broken.
Emergencies
Fortunately, problems in orthodontics are seldom an emergency. However, if there is a problem with your braces that is causing severe pain and you cannot get relief by using wax or repositioning the broken part, please call us.
In case of any accident involving the face or mouth or if you notice loose teeth or damaged braces, call us at once. If a tooth is lost, do not try to clean it. Simply place it in milk and call Dr. Togrye or your family dentist immediately.
We reserve a limited amount of time for each day so that our emergency patients may be scheduled quickly. If you have a problem requiring emergency treatment, please call us as early in the day as possible.
Should you have an emergency after hours or on weekends, our 24-hour answering service can be reached by dialing 615-848-0011.
Loose Band
Call our office as soon as possible! The seal created by the cement (glue) has been broken between the band and the tooth; this allows decalcification and decay to occur under the band. You must call before your next appointment to allow us to schedule time to make repairs!
Broken Archwire, Appliance or Bracket
Call our office as soon as possible, describe the problem and Dr. Togrye will evaluate the need for immediate repair. You may be able to wait until your next scheduled appointment. Dr. Togrye allows three broken brackets before charging $25 each.
Loose Wire
Gently tuck the wire back in place with a blunt object such as the eraser end of a pencil. Use wax or sugarless gum over the area to prevent the wire from sticking your gums and call our office as soon as possible.
Lost Tie Wire or Elastic Tie
Notify us at your next appointment.
Headgear Does Not Fit
This is sometimes caused by not wearing it as described. If the face-bow is bent, call our office at once.
Separators
Separators have been placed between your teeth to produce a small space so the orthodontic bands can be placed on these teeth. It is important that the separators stay between your teeth. Call us if they come out.
Discomfort
If you experience discomfort from these separators, use salt-water rinses to soothe the gums. Take aspirin or Tylenol to make you feel more comfortable.
Care
You may eat as usual, but avoid sticky, chewy foods. You will be able to brush, but do not floss in the area where the separators have been placed. Please do not play with the separators or remove them. Loss of the separators will make banding your teeth more difficult and uncomfortable for you. If your separators come out more than a day before your appointment, call the office so they can be replaced.
